About the Transport of Yesteryear Steam and Vehicle Meet
This event, previously held at the Sun Inn, is held at the top of town car park in the beautiful Dorset county town of Dorchester. The steam and vehicle meet is held south of the River Frome in the centre of town and provides visitors with one of the last opportunities of the year to experience the transports of yesteryear.
This annual, informal show, exhibits vintage and classic vehicles along with a few steam engines.
The exhibits at the show change each year, but always promise those that support it an enjoyable experience. Be sure to wrap up warm for this mid-December get together.
Transport Of Yesteryear (Dorset)
The Transport of Yesteryear (TOY) club were established in the late 90s to bring together like-minded enthusiasts in and around Dorset. Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength, raising money for local charities, and providing locals with the chance to share their passion for all things yesterday.
Entry To The Event
The show is held in mid-December and is free to attend. The event usually kicks off about 10 o’clock in the morning. Proceeds from donations of the show go towards a local charity.
Somewhere to Stay in Dorset
Dorchester has many fine hotels and bed and breakfasts in and around the centre of town. From the Best Western Wessex Royal Hotel to the Premier Inn just 10 minute walk from the event. If you plan to be around for the weekend and want to spend a little bit of time outside of Dorchester, why not try Weymouth for something a little closer to the sea. Weymouth also offers a great selection of three and four-star hotels.
Getting To Top O'Town Long Stay Car Park
If you’re travelling to the event by car use the A37 south from Yeovil, or the A35 which runs east-west between Lyme Regis and Bournemouth. After getting to Dorchester the top of town car park can be found close to Dorchester West train station situated in the centre of town.
Other Things To Do Around Dorset
There are plenty of other things to see and do in Dorchester. The time of year would suggest that indoor activities would be better, such as The Keep Military Museum, Dorset Teddy Bear Museum, and the Tutankhamen Exhibition - or located within a few miles of the town centre. Although if you are feeling adventurous there are some outdoor activities such as Maiden Castle to the southwest, or the Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park to the east.
The transport of yesteryear group, hold many events throughout the year, just check their website for details.
