About the Harrogate Car Enthusiasts Car Show and Family Fun Day

The town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire is a tourist attraction known for its mineral waters. The wealthy, seeking cures for various ailments, have made Harrogate a destination since the first mineral spring was discovered in the late 16th century. It is the hometown of actor Jim Clark who played the unforgettable role of the head butler Mr. Carson in the hit series Downton Abbey. Another notable person from Harrogate is Barry Busby. He is the driving force behind the Harrogate Car Enthusiasts Car Show and Family Fun Day.

This one-day May event will feature about 200 vehicle exhibits lined up on the Harrogate Rugby Club off Rudding Lane in Harrogate. Automobiles will dominate but there should be some steam engines, classic trucks, and maybe some vintage tractors.

The exact line-up of activities and entertainment has not been established but what is a sure thing is that the whole family, even those who are not interested in old cars will have a great time. Past events have featured rides, animal encounters, and the ever-popular “bouncy castles” for kids. Live entertainment will be performing on stage. Food and the open bar will keep people in the mood for the entire seven-hour event and may even give car enthusiasts the nerve to buy that missing part from the autojumble.

Barry Busby is a self-described family man and the owner of Barry B's Glazing and Handyman services. His company has been in business since 2009. An avid car lover, Barry and some friends organized the Harrogate Car Enthusiasts Club in 2012. In a 2018 interview with Classic Car Curation, Barry described the club saying,  “Unlike a lot of clubs, ours is just a social gathering for all car lovers, where we meet up and check out the various cars attending. It’s family-friendly with events and functions throughout the year…”

Entry To The Event

The fun will begin at around 10:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. The best part is that there is no entry fee. Guests are, however, encouraged to donate to featured charities like the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity.

Somewhere to Stay in North Yorkshire

Campers and Caravaners won’t have to go far to find accommodations. The Harrogate Caravan Park lies just south of the show and has all the camping amenities to make your stay comfortable. Another choice is Rudding Holiday Park that has an outdoor swimming pool and even a golf course. People seeking hotels in Harrogate have approximately two dozen to choose from.

Other Things To Do Around Harrogate

Vacationers can indulge themselves at Turkish Baths Harrogate where steam and heat will melt the stress away. After you are fully relaxed, visit the Royal Pump Room Museum and sip on a glass of sulphur infused water. After that, head a few miles north to the Ripley Castle and enjoy learning about “A remarkable piece of History”.

This is an outdoor event with flat grassy terrain so wheelchairs should be able to maneuver with little trouble. If your dog admires vintage cars as much as you do, be sure that you keep it on a leash and clean up if it has some “business” to attend to. There is a car park on the site. As the date of the show approaches, check back for any updates and to answer any questions. Finally, we will give a plug to Barry Busby. He is an accredited glazer so if you need someone to take care of your glass and glazing needs, be sure to contact him.
