About the Barton Under Needwood Steam Rally
Needwood Rise Farm at Barton Gate is located in the splendid commuter countryside of Staffordshire, about two miles west of England's historic north-south boundary, the River Trent. The local farm field is the perfect location for the event.
Held annually in mid-July, the rally and festival draws crowds from Staffordshire and beyond. The rally always delivers plenty of fun and attractions for steam enthusiasts and families. Check out the video below from the 2014 event capturing the sights and sounds of miniature railways, bird and dog demonstrations, traction engines, radio controlled cars, funfair (including hook-a-duck), and kids entertainment.
Each year the show boasts a wide selection of attractions, including full size and miniature steam engines, commercial and military vehicles, vintage cars and motorcycles, stationary engines and tractors, miniature steam train and engine rides, animals, music and much more. Hot and cold food is available along with a beer tent for those in need of some refreshment.
The rally has been in motion since 1995 and each year raises money for charity. The events is run by volunteers who share a love of steam and historical preservation. The team combine their organisational skills and love of steam preservation to do good in their community. Donations over the years have been made to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and more recently the Midlands Air Ambulance - both worthy charities.
Entry To The Rally
The event is open on Saturday from 10.00am until 5.00pm, and on Sunday from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Camping pitches are available and the price includes entry to the event. Entry prices (2017) £6 for adults and free for accompanied children under 15.
Somewhere to Stay in Staffordshire
If you do not plan to take advantage of the on-site camping, there are 'more comfortable' options available in the surrounding area. Probably, the most local accommodation can be found at Woodlands Retreat in Bartons Gate. This peaceful boutique bed and breakfast offers spacious rooms and fantastic woodland views. Book early as this is very popular over the rally weekend. Other accommodation can be found easily in the village or further afield towards Tamworth or Burton-upon-Trent.
Getting To Needwood Rise Farm
Barton-under-Needwood is located approximately halfway between Burton upon Trent and Lichfield off the A38. Exit the A38 for Byrkley Park and follow the B5016 to Barton-under-Needwood and the festival and rally site. On the day of the rally, the organisers put up small road signs so look out for those and remember to drive carefully down those narrow country roads.
