About the Anglesey Vintage Rally
Every May on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey in Northern Wales, the idyllic towns of Gwalchmai and Holyhead host the Anglesey Vintage rally.
Come out for the whole weekend in mid-May to experience vintage and restored agricultural equipment, buses, lorries, and construction equipment. Also presented will be classic cars, vintage motorcycles, pedal cycles, and unique miniature engines.
Be sure to visit the craft and trade stalls, view the miniature railroad, and select a model project to take home. Don’t miss the tractor pull and stay into the evening for live entertainment.
Anglesey Vintage Equipment Society
The rally is organized and sponsored by the Anglesey Vintage Equipment Society. Run entirely by volunteers, it is an entirely self-funded charity established in the mid-1970s to preserve old machinery and artifacts.
Entry To The Rally
Proceeds from the rally are donated to a variety of charities each year. In past years these have included: Saint John Ambulance Holyhead Division, Seindorf Beaumaris Band, Cantorion Llan Ladies' Choir, Thomas Close Children's Play Area Association, Beaumaris, and Anglesey Riding for the Disabled.
Somewhere to Stay in Isle of Anglesey
Camping is available onsite for the entire weekend. Or check out Anglesey Yurt Holidays for a posh camping experience. If you prefer more indoors accommodations, try the Holland Arms Hotel a mere 5-miles into town, a family-run, warm, and friendly hotel. Or for a castle feel, the Bull Hotel offers an historic inn with traditional rooms, Wi-Fi, and free breakfast.
Getting To Anglesey Agricultural Showground
Visitors can ride the train in comfort to either Bangor or Holyhead and ride the X4 bus route to the stop at the festival grounds. Drivers should use the North Wales Expressway A55 to Exit A4080. Drive north to Holyhead (A5) and turn east. Travel approximately 3 miles, through Gwalchmai, to festival grounds on the right. Private pilots can contact Mona Aerodrome for requirements to fly to the rally. The airfield is about a quarter-mile from the fairgrounds.
Other Things To Do Around Holyhead
For other exciting sights while in Anglesey, add to your rally experience with a visit to the Anglesey Transport Museum. For a walk in the park, so to speak, Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens features 3 elaborate gardens, a tea room, and even a place to stay. Melin Llynon, Llanddeusant is the only surviving, working gristmill in Wales. Or visit the great unfinished masterpiece, Beaumaris Castle, started by Edward I during his campaign to conquer Wales in 1282.
The Anglesey Vintage Rally is a wonderful opportunity to visit northern Wales in the spring. Bring the whole family. Well behaved dogs on leads are more than welcome.
