About the Hunton Steam Gathering
In the small little village of Hunton, located near the river Beaut, all walks of life gather annually to help preserve, educate, and honour the greatest steam inventions of the past.
Throughout the years, the gathering has grown to be so much more than a steam enthusiasts day out. Now, it’s a day for all your friends and family.
Hunton Steam Gathering is a carnival that has grown rapidly throughout the years, incorporating amusements much more than steam inventions. On the day, you will get to experience a cast array of exhibitions and amusements. Everything from live stunts to vintage cars and something calmer like arts and crafts for your little ones.
Hunton Steam Gathering Committee
Established in 1985 by David Robinson who was a local landlord in the Hunton area and more importantly a steam enthusiast. The original event was held behind a pub owned by local farmers which attracted a crowd of 1000 people which was astonishing for its time. However, since 1985 the event has grown 10 fold, attracting 10’000 visitors every year! The exponential growth is all thanks to the improvement in the event year after year!
Entry To The Event
Typically the gathering is usually held in September, but dates tend to change year on year. In which case, keep your eyes peeled. Furthermore, ticket prices vary between adult (£8), child (£4), and under 5s go free.
Somewhere to Stay in Yorkshire
If you’re travelling by car and are coming from far the best place to stay in the area is The Queens Head, which is about a 5-minute drive from the gathering depending on traffic. In addition, if you’re travelling by campervan, you have the option to camp overnight and mingle with some other families, which is always a great experience. If you do decide to camp, camper tickets are usually £60.
Getting To Low Hall Farm
If you’re coming by car follow Wind Hill Lane, take a right on Leyburn Road and follow that road straight and then take the second right onto Bedale Road follow that road straight and it will be on your left.
Other Things To Do Around Bedale
If you’re out and about travelling around Hunton, I’d highly recommend you check out Foxglove Covert, Inspired Chocolate and The Big Sheep & Little Cow.
Without a doubt, the Hunton Steam Gathering is great fun for all the family.
