About the Silloth Vintage Rally
A lovely Victorian port town sitting on the shoreline of Solway Firth, Silloth (which is also known as Silloth-on-Solway), is well-known for its glorious landscapes and sunsets. It’s also a very popular holiday destination, with caravan parks, tea rooms, and eateries aplenty, as the town plays host to annual kite and food festivals, and a championship golf course.
The most highly-anticipated annual event for steam and vintage enthusiasts, however, is the Silloth-on-Solway Vintage Rally. Taking place on Silloth Green, between the Silloth townscape and the seafront promenade, the two-day family-friendly event is held in June of each year. Hundreds of vintage exhibits are out on display, including steam engines, classic cars, commercial and military vehicles, classic motorbikes, and more.
Organised entertainment takes place in the Main Arena, with plenty of refreshments and catering stalls around the Green. There are other stalls, as well as a fairground, autojumble, and donkey rides for the kids.
Silloth Vintage Rally
The Silloth-on-Solway Rally is run by a small committee of vintage enthusiasts, who have been organising the vintage steam rally since 2000. Attracting hundreds of exhibits, the number of displays and attractions has continued to grow each year.
Entry To The Rally
With something for all the family to enjoy, the event is free of charge.

Cumbria is served by a good road network, making the area readily accessible from various corners of the UK. If you're coming from Carlisle, take the A596 to Wigton, then the B5302 to Silloth. From Keswick, take the A66 to Cockermouth, then the A594 to Maryport, and finally the B5300 coast road to Silloth. If you're visiting from Penrith, head on to Junction 41 M6, then take the B5305 to Wigton, and finally, the B5302 to Silloth.
Other Things To Do Around Silloth
The Silloth Green itself has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the most beautifully maintained public spaces with excellent visitor facilities. With Victorian-style lighting, flower gardens, and refurbished heritage features, the Green today has a modern Water Splash Area, a woodland adventure play area, a Putting Green, and a BMX track. Just to the north of Silloth is Grune Point, a sandy, raised shingle beach. South of the town towards Allonby is Bank Mill Nurseries, which has a butterfly house, a reptile house, a nature reserve with ponds and picnic tables, and a coffee shop showcasing fresh local produce. If you're into golf, the 18-hole golf course was the 'home' course for Miss Cecilia Leitch, probably the most celebrated woman golfer of her day.
Parking is available at the three public car parks in Silloth, all of which are free. There are also parking spaces available on the streets, within the town. A number of public conveniences may be found in and around the town, including two-- the Criffel Street Toilets and the Skinburness Toilets-- with 24/7 disabled access. As for canine companions, dogs are permitted but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please clean up after your pet as a courtesy.
