About the West Oxon Steam and Vintage Show
The small village of Ducklington lies about 10 miles west of Oxford off the A40 and is one of the earliest Saxon parishes in Oxfordshire. The town is known for the rare fritillary flower, but for one summer weekend each year, Ducklington is better known as home to the West Oxen Steam and Vintage Show.
No pun intended, but folks attending the Show will need a 'head of steam' to see all the exhibits. There are the traction steam engines, with their tall smokestacks, oil engines, and commercial trucks that will take you back about 80 years. Vintage cars from 1970 classics to old luxury vehicles will be there for you to admire.
Do you remember those clear glass bottles with silver tops delivered by the milkman to your front door filled with fresh milk? Now you can see not only collections of containers and other memorabilia but also the trucks that delivered the milk. You will enjoy when the steam engines come alive in the work area with live demonstrations of agricultural tractors and machinery. There will be lots of great food to whet the appetite and quench your thirst.

Somewhere to Stay in Oxfordshire
Exhibitors can set up camp behind their display stand or vehicle and never have to leave the site for the entire weekend from Thursday through Monday morning. Camping for attendees is available for £35.00, but the pitches do not have electrical hook-ups. Many 2- and 3-star hotels are off the A40 near Ducklington for those looking for a hotel or a B&B.
Getting To Ducklington Show Ground
Drivers will have an easy time getting to this steam rally. If approaching from Oxford from the east, get on the A40 and drive about 10 miles to the A415 exit. The exit veers off to the left in a southerly direction and will lead directly to the Ducklington Showground. Drivers from the west on the A40 will also exit left at the A415 exit and make a right turn to head toward the Showground. There is a bus service that ends at the A40 / A415 junction for those willing and able to take the three-quarters of a mile walk to the steam rally.
Other Things To Do Around Ducklington
Oxford offers many things to see and do and is just 10 miles from the steam rally, The Pitt Rivers Museum is a great place to spend a few hours learning about anthropology and world archaeology, and you can gawk at the shrunken heads on display. Oxford University, where many famous people have attended, is another must-see while in Oxford.
Your canine family member is welcome, but please keep him, or her, on a leash and under control, especially when the steam engine whistles blow. Parking is free, and the field is relatively flat for wheelchairs access. We all hope that the weather cooperates, but be sure to bring your umbrella just in case.
