About the Sedgemoor Vintage Show

Bridgewater is a market town located about 35 miles southeast of Bristol in the UK. It is the birthplace of Harry "Breaker" Harbord Morant (1864 – 1902), who was an Anglo-Australian drover, horseman, bush poet, and military officer. As the story goes, Morant committed a series of revenge killings in retaliation for the death of his commanding officer. His victims included Boer POWs and many civilian residents of the Northern Transvaal. His last words, according to legend were, "Shoot straight, you bastards! Don't make a mess of it!" as he faced the firing squad. About five miles north of Bridgwater is the Sloway farm where every July, many straight-shooters and perhaps some prevaricators attend the Sedgemoor Vintage Show.

This two-day weekend steam event is held in July at the Solway Farm near West Huntspill. No firing squad exhibitions are scheduled but there are plenty of other things to see at this event organised by the Sedgemoor Vintage Club.

The first amazing sight will be the display of vintage vehicles and machinery. Included are steam and stationary engines, tractors, classic cars, and commercials. Next are the static and moving engines of all sizes. Then, the working section, craft/model, trade stands, entertainment, and refreshments all follow. The whole family will enjoy this popular event expected to draw large crowds of spectators.

Sedgemoor Vintage Club

The Sedgemoor Vintage Club was legally formed on November 30, 1995. One of its main objectives is, “To encourage and promote a practical interest in steam vintage vehicles.”

Entry To The Event

Past shows have run from 9.30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days with entry costs at £6.00 for adults and free for accompanied kids under 16. The entry fees are subject to change so please check back later as the show date approaches.

Somewhere to Stay in Somerset

Campers and Caravaners who cross over the River Huntspill will find several places to pitch a tent and park that RV. Withy Water Fishing lake, Caravan & Campsite, Westhill Farm Caravan Park, and Phippins Farm Caravan Park are all highly rated sites. Weekend visitors will find ample hotel accommodations in Bridgewater, along M5 heading south or A39 heading west.

Other Things To Do Around West Huntspill

There are several attractions near Bridgewater to see along with the Sedgemoor Vintage Show. One of them is the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum where visitors will be treated to the tools, methods, and processes involved in making a variety of bricks, tiles, and terracotta plaques. Barrow Beach, Brean Beach, and Uphill Beach on the west coast await the visitor. Another nice time is a picnic lunch or just buy some treats and spend a few relaxing hours at the Ashton Windmill.
