Vintage Show In West Glamorgan

Saturday 9th June, 2018  -  Sunday 10th June, 2018 Weekend Vintage Show June, West Glamorgan No comments yet.

About the Neath Steam and Vintage Show

The town of Neath is a Welsh community located on the River Neath in the county of Glamorgan. It is the birthplace of legendary Hollywood actor Ray Milland (1907 – 1986) who starred in movies like “Dial M for Murder” and “It Happens Every Spring”. The versatile actor was best known for his Academy Award performance of an alcoholic writer in “The Lost Weekend” released in 1945. We don’t recommend that anyone should lose a weekend to drinking but we do urge that people have a wonderful weekend at the Neath Steam and Vintage Show in the town of Crynant, about seven miles north of Neath.

This two-day event usually held in June will include demonstrations of tractors and heavy machinery like diggers and cranes along with displays of vintage cars and commercial vehicles.

Our animal friends are not forgotten as there are activities with dogs, horses, and birds of prey with the “Hawking” displays of training and flying hawks. The kids will be able to take donkey rides, visit the Pet’s Corner, and engage in a variety of activities aimed at kids of all ages. People should start doing arm exercises now to help their side win the annual Tug-o-War competition. Rumour has it there may be a beer tent to settle bets after the Tug-o-War.

Neath Old Tractor and Commercial Club

The Neath Steam and Vintage Show is an active company and has been putting on this exhibition since 2010. The company offices are in Swansea, West Glamorgan.  The event is organised by the Neath Old Tractor and Commercial Club.

Entry To The Event

The gates open at 10:00 p.m. on both days and close at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The entry fee is £6.00 for adults age 16 and over. Those under 16 are free when accompanied by an adult and those who have accumulated significantly more years will get an OAP discount entry fee of £5.00.

Somewhere to Stay in West Glamorgan

People wanting to camp will find several campsites near Crynant. One is the Lone Wolf Campsite that is highly rated but will require booking well in advance of the event. Don’t go here if you are looking for a “lost weekend” of partying because the emphasis here is “on peace and quiet, back to basics.” Willow Springs Campsite is another place where tent campers and RVs can spend a few days. There are several hotel and B&B options along the A4067 a few miles west of Crynant.

Other Things To Do Around Neath Road

There are many interesting attractions around Crynant and Neath. One is the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum, a former coal mine and now operating as a museum that tells the story of the coal mining history in Crynant. A trio of museums, The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea Museum Tramway Centre, and the Swansea Museum are in Swansea, about 10 miles west of Neath along the M4.

This is an outdoor event so people with wheelchairs may encounter difficulty in areas that are uneven and perhaps muddy with any rainfall. Dogs are welcome if they are on a leash, always attended to, and have owners diligent about picking up the “doo-doo” as needed. Please check with the organisers about available parking for this event. Feel free to get lost this weekend with all the activities going on at the Neath Steam and Vintage Show.
