About the Border Counties Steam and Country Show
Located about 50 miles southwest of Worcester and just inside the Welsh border and close to the River Monnow is the historically significant town of Monmouth. Karaoke lovers who have ever performed the 1975 hit single "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen will be pleased to know that it was partially recorded at a local studio. Those who have been repelled by your rendition of the six-minute song can escape to nearby Vauxhall Fields, home of this year’s Border Counties Steam and Country Show.
This is a yearly two-day event usually held on a spring weekend that features many attractions that the whole family will enjoy.
One of the highlights of the show is a collectable and vintage auction on the first day of the event. There will be many interesting trade stands along with steam engines, military vehicles, vintage caravan, and more. Previous shows have been blessed with Belgian fairground organs with the unique sound they produce from days bygone. Other attractions are a dog show, rides for the kids and a bar for the grown-up kids. You will need to ask the organisers if Karaoke can be featured in future shows but be prepared to get some strange looks.
Border Counties Vintage Club
The Border Counties Steam and Country Show began in 1975 in October, but weather concerns convinced the organisers to make it a springtime event. The show continued to grow every year, and because of the need for more space it was moved to Vauxhill Farms in 2004. The goal is to support local charities and individuals who may have fallen on some hard times and need a little financial boost.
Entry To The Event
The gates will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. for both days of the Show. Admission is £6.00 for adults, £5.00 for OAPs, £3.00 for children age 12-16 and free to children 11 and under. The family ticket is £15.00 for 2 kids and 2 adults. Exhibitors and Craft stands will need to submit an entry form available for download.
Somewhere to Stay in Monmouthshire
Campers and Caravaners can camp near the Show by submitting a Camping Booking Form also available via download. The cost per night us £12.50 plus £5.00 reduced admission to the show. Other camping spots are located along the A40 and the River Wye. Those who prefer hotels will find about a half dozen in proximity with many more along the A40 that will suit any budget.
Getting To Vauxhall Fields
Drivers attending the Steam and Country Show from the north on the A40 will exit left after crossing the River Monnow and just before the Gibraltar Tunnels onto the B4233. Next, take a sharp right turn onto the 4293 (Portal Road) and cross over the tunnels. The road will curve to the right and junction with the B4233. Turn left onto the B4233, and at the second roundabout take the second exit to remain on the B4233 (Rockfield Road). About a mile further make a right turn onto Ancrehill Lane. The road will curve south in about half a mile and will take you to your destination. Drivers coming in from the south will do the same after they exit left from the A40 and take a left onto the B4233.
Other Things To Do Around Monmouth
If you feel compelled to take another stab at 'Bohemian Rhapsody', the Monmouth Athletic club features a pub with karaoke and hopefully earplugs for the audience. But steam enthusiasts who politely decline your invitation to join you may instead head to The Nelson Museum and Local History Centre (Monmouth Museum), a museum in Monmouth that features a collection of artefacts associated with Admiral Horatio Nelson. The Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo is another close-by attraction and out of earshot of the karaoke pub.
Check with the Border Counties Vintage Club with any questions about parking, dogs that are not participating in the dog show, and any special accommodations for people with disabilities. Keep checking for updates and remember, there is ample time before the show for voice lessons and to choose a less lengthy karaoke song.

[editted] Do you have any times for this event? Thank you
Howard, the organiser site doesn't give times, but they request exhibitors to be in place by 10.00am and not to leave before 4.30pm, -- anyway I have written to the organiser and have asked for visitor times. I will post these if I get an immediate response.
