About the Callington Vintage Rally
Tired of the pollution of the city? The noise? The parking nightmares? Looking for a laid-back day experiencing some history, culture, and fun? The Callington Vintage Rally in the countryside of Cornwall offers visitors the opportunity to get out of the city, away from the traffic and pollution into the rural, quiet, and unspoiled landscape.
The rally will feature vintage, restored and operational steam engines and equipment, classic automobiles and motorcycles, and other types of vehicles to whet your appetite. Live demonstrations throughout the day will add to your experience.
Stroll the grounds and steam up your own engine with delicious foods and beverages - even a beer tent for the adults. Trade stands, and artisan stalls will offer unique and hard to find pieces for your home or to add to or complete your own collection.
Old Garden & Horticultural Machinery & Tools Club
The rally is sponsored by the Old Garden & Horticultural Machinery & Tools Club. This relatively young rally is building steam and growing each year. Visitors are encouraged to help continue the charitable work of the Club through donations and purchases of sponsored products at the rally.
Entry To The Rally
Entry to the rally is free, but donations are welcomed and encouraged. Plenty of free parking. The Louis Tea Rooms are fully wheelchair accessible and kid-friendly, even offering a kids’ menu. Dine al fresco in the outdoor seating and listen to the fun of the rally during your meal.
Somewhere to Stay in Cornwall
The pristine beauty of the region offers many opportunities to get back to nature. A highly rated place to camp out (or caravan) is the Copper Pot Campsite. If you are entirely the opposite of camping, try a 5-star, luxury stay at Pentillie Castle and Estate. This posh hotel offers all of the top amenities and will pamper you throughout your stay for the rally. Looking for a kid-friendly option somewhere in between? Try the Butterbee House for a quiet, bed & breakfast feel.
Getting To Louis Tea Room
If you prefer to ride the rails to the rally, take the GWR line to the Gunnislake station. It’s a couple of blocks walk to the bus station where bus #112 will take you to the Honicombe Manor Holiday Park stop. The Tea Room is about a half-mile walk from the bus stop. If driving your own automobile, merge onto Devon Parkway (A38) from the A386. After about 11 miles on the A38 (A388), get onto Southern Road (A390) to Callington. Southern Road goes right past the Tea Room and rally grounds.
Other Things To Do Around Callington
Also, in the same area as the rally is the Morwellham Quay, a former copper mine. The grounds feature a museum, underground railway, and much more. Looking for a more sophisticated experience to go with your steam? Visit the National Trust at Cotehele for a beautiful house filled with artwork, overlooking glorious gardens and a restored stone bridge. Take the kids over to the Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary to visit exotic animals and birds of prey.
Come out to the rally at the Louis Tea Room for delicious food and a great time. You can visit for the rally and stay for the food or come for the food and stay for the rally. Whichever you choose, you can be assured of a good day of fun.
