Steam Event In Buckinghamshire

Saturday 1st August, 2020  -  Sunday 2nd August, 2020 Weekend Steam Event August, Buckinghamshire No comments yet.

About the Great Bucks Steam and Country Fair

There is no giant peach, nor any snozzberries, nor a chocolate factory, but the Great Bucks Steam and Country fair may be filled with a lot of chitty-chitty and bang-bang. The village of Shabbington in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, hosts this exciting fair every summer.

The fair features vintage tractors and equipment along with classic and collectable cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. Look to see if there isn’t a magic car hidden among the treasures. Catch a show of the heavy horses, arena events, and the threshing demonstrations. Saturday night features live toot-sweet entertainment.

A large selection of models for all levels will be available for purchase, as well as a vast selection of artisan products. The fair will also host a market filled with all sorts of treasures for your home and life, but don’t lick the wallpaper. An array of delicious foods - which might include something made with peaches - and plenty of tasty treats from farms in the area, and a licensed bar will all be serving visitors, but probably no fizzy lifting drinks.

Entry To The Fair

Entry to the fair is £8 for adults, £7 for concessions, £4 for children over 12, and children 12 and under are free. Ample free parking is available on the fairgrounds. The fair is dog-friendly, so bring Edison, but they must remain on a lead.

Somewhere to Stay in Buckinghamshire

Caravan and camping pitches are available on the fairgrounds for £35 per night for 2 adults with 2 children and include entry into the fair for both days. For those disinclined for staying in the great outdoors, just a couple minutes drive from the fair is the Five Arrows Hotel. This 4-star hotel offers quiet Victorian styling with a bar and restaurant and free Wi-Fi. For the more budget-minded, try one of the Travelodge hotels in either Thame or Oxford Wheatly for a quiet, comfortable room and free Wi-Fi.

Getting To Ickford Road

The fair is located between Ickford Village and Shabbington on Ickford Road. Driving on the M40, exit at A40 and go east. The road becomes the A418. At North Weston, turn north (left) onto Mill Road. Mill Road becomes Ickford Road in Shabbington, so stay on Ickford Road to the fair just west of the village. Train service is also available to Aylesbury.

Other Things To Do Around Aylesbury

Did you know that in addition to his famous children’s works, Roald Dahl also wrote the screenplays for 'Chitty-Chitty, Bang-Bang' and the James Bond classic, 'You Only Live Twice'? While visiting the fair, take the time to visit the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in nearby Great Missenden to learn more about this fascinating writer who lived in Buckingham County for 30-years. For a relaxing stroll, head into Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Park, pack a picnic lunch to eat on the sprawling green lawns.
