Model Railway Event In Norfolk

Sunday 6th September, 2020 Model Railway Event September, Norfolk No comments yet.

About the Model Railway Day

As children, each of us played with that one special toy. One that transported us to a world found only within the imagination. Sometimes that world was a tea party with a doll or a fantasy land with a unicorn. But for many, that world was a coal-fired one of steam-powered trains, tracks, and passengers.

In September, north, and east of London in the county of Norfolk, the Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens hosts Model Railway Day. During this wonderful exhibition, meticulously designed and built model railways are presented by those for whom childhood dreams of a world of coal and steam didn’t fade with age. Stroll through incredible works of miniature art and rediscover a childhood passion you (might have) held so dear. Or discover a new love for your imagination.

Trade stands will be onsite to offer a wide variety of all of the different gauges of model train sets, as well as many other types of imaginative toys for you to select. Start your collection or add to your existing railway. Food and drink are available from the Steam Museum Café or bring your picnic lunch. The onsite Plant Centre Restaurant offers full meals. Go for rides on any of the steam-powered railways around the site and take a painted horse-ride through a world of color and fantasy on one of the steam-powered carousels.

Bressingham Steam & Gardens

Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens has been rescuing and preserving vintage, and classic works of steam-powered equipment for more than half-a-century. They offer many ways to experience steam power from the miniature to the massive. Memberships and volunteer opportunities are available. Assistance dogs are welcome, but please leave your pet Fido at home.

Entry To The Event

An event entry-only ticket to the model show is £6.50, which provides access throughout the site but does not include any of the rides or attractions. Inquire onsite or online for more information about ticket prices for the rides. Other 'carnival-like' attractions are not included in the entry or any of the unlimited rides ticket prices. Parking is plentiful and free, but not shaded. Please do not bring Fido just to leave him in the car.

Somewhere to Stay in Norfolk

Due west of Bressingham Gardens on the A1066 is the lovely White House Bed and Breakfast. Also, nearby is Inglewood House Bed and Breakfast. For a more traditional hotel setting, the Best Western Brome Grange or the Diss by Verve (formally the Scole Inn) might be what you seek. Swattesfield Campsite offers facilities for caravans or those looking for a lodge or cabin adventure.

Getting To Low Road

The Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens are ‘brown’ Tourist Board signposted, making them easy to find on the A1066. It is 2.5 miles west of Diss and 14 miles east of Thetford. The nearest train station is Diss. Taxi service is available but may require pre-booking due to other events and activities in the area. Indications of local bus service appear to be available on the A1066 with stops at the Gardens. Check online for more information about potential public transportation options.

Other Things To Do Around Nr Diss

Bressingham offers more than the model exhibition and steam-powered rides. The grounds are home to elaborate and beautiful gardens through which visitors can take a relaxing stroll. South of Diss is The Grange Musical Collection. The eclectic and growing collection of unique musical instruments is worth stopping in for a visit. A bit further south is Eye Castle. The small and friendly castle might be a little challenging to find, but it is free and offers spectacular views of the area. If you come with the kids for the event, a visit to Banham Zoo might perfectly fill their wild desires.
