About the New Year's Day Steam
The Westonzoyland Pumping Station sits on the east side of the River Parrett between Andersea and Burrow Bridge in the picturesque country of Somerset.
Take advantage of the New Year’s Day Steam Up to get your new year off to a historic start. The museum has plenty of engines and pumps on display.
The museum boasts more than 30 stationary steam engines and pumps and is a great family day out. The café will be open serving tea and coffee as well as an excellent selection of cakes - if you still have room following the Christmas festivities!
Westonzoyland Pumping Station
Established in the early 1970s Westonzoyland Engine Trust is a registered charity who independently maintain and operate the museum exhibits. There is always a new restoration project to get stuck in to and the museum volunteers are always looking for new members to help out. Check out their official website for more information.
Entry To The Event
The exhibit is open from midday until 4.00pm in the afternoon. Free parking is available. Admission prices are £8 for adults and £7 concessions. Children under 15 get in for free. Proceeds from the special events are pumped (sorry, couldn’t resist that!) back into the running of the museum.
Somewhere to Stay in Somerset
If you are visiting the local area over the festive period under looking for somewhere to stay there are many bed-and-breakfasts and hotels available around Bridgwater and Taunton. The closest are Morland bed-and-breakfast to the south and Hill View to the north. Both are within 10 minutes drive of the pumping station.
Getting To Hoopers Lane
Travelling to Westonzoyland is a doddle. Take the M5 towards Bridgwater and exit at junction 23. Follow your nose into Bridgwater and then head east out on to the A372 and take a right (south) in Westonzoyland at Westonzoyland Stores. Keep heading south and follow the brown signs to the Pumping Station - be careful as this is a single lane road.
Other Things To Do Around Nr Bridgwater
Follow the river east a few miles to Burrow Mump where you can climb to the top and get a great view of the local countryside. For more history, head into Bridgwater and visit the Blake Museum on Blake Street - for a complete account of the Admiral’s nautical history and renowned exploits. There are a few parks and outdoor things to do too - provided it’s not too cold!
The museum holds other events throughout the year - check out their website for more details.
