About the Spalding Model Railway Exhibition
The town of Spalding in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire is known for its Tulip industry. The Spalding Library is the former site of the town’s “house of correction” that was in operation from 1826 to 1884 putting those who were “unwilling to work” into labour intensive situations. They worked under the Elizabethan Poor Law; a system created in 1601. If it were still open today, that house of corrections might be filled by those with an aversion to gainful employment. Hopefully, they will soon be free to attend the Spalding Model Railway Exhibition, held every fall at the Springfields Event Centre in Spalding.
Hosting the two-day weekend exhibition is the Spalding Model Railway Club (SMRC) whose self-described goal is to “improve the skills and enjoyment of individual members through railway modelling in a friendly atmosphere.
That friendly atmosphere extends to miscreants from houses of corrections to model steam railway enthusiasts where they can witness the wonderful layouts of miniature scenes of railway stations from local and distant origins in a range of gauges from N to O and most in between. Traders and demonstrators will be on hand to help the casual and serious hobbyists.

Other Things To Do Around Spalding
Local folks and visitors from anywhere may be interested in the Spalding Gentlemen's Society Museum. Once a men’s only organization, it is now open to everyone who can join for a £60 annual fee. It is the second-oldest museum in the country and from its early days, the Society has collected ‘curious’ things, established an important library, and an archive holding. The area has many more tourist attractions like the Gordon Boswell Romany Museum or the Moulton Windmill.
There is free parking for the Spalding Model Railway Exhibition but questions about wheelchair accessibility and the policy on dogs should be directed to SMRC and the Springfields Event Centre.
