About the Torbay Steam Fair
In the central part of the southeast peninsula that separates the River Dart from Paignton Bay lies the historic parish of Churston Ferrers, whose annual Steam Fair draws crowds from near and far.
Each year, in the summertime, Torbay Steam Fair in South Devon provides three days of attractions for the whole family and has grown to become one of the biggest in the area.
While principally a Steam Fair, the gathering has expanded its attractions to its vintage brothers and sisters and now incorporates vintage cars, commercial vehicles, motorbikes, military vehicles, tractors, stationary engines, and fairground rides. The show also provides market stalls, children's entertainment, refreshments, and a bar.
Torbay Steam Rally Group
The Steam Fair is run by the Torbay Steam Rally Group. The group was established in the mid-1980s to ensure that the Steam Fair would continue to run after The Devon Traction Engine Club decided they could not continue. The organisers pride themselves on being able to bring a new Steam Engine to the fair every year!
Entry To The Fair
The Vintage Fair is open from 9.30am each day. 2019 prices are Adults £9, Senior Citizens £8, Children over 5 £3, and Family tickets (2 adults, 2 children) £20.
Somewhere to Stay in Devon
Weekend visitors who are looking for accommodation may find Churston Manor, in Churston or The Quayside Hotel, in Brixham suitable places to stay. For those a little more adventurous, camping sites are located within short drives of the showground site. Check out Galmpton Touring Park, Upton Manor Farm Campsite, and Wall Park.
Getting To The Showground
By car, you can get to Churston Ferrers by heading towards Paignton on the A380 (from the north) or A385 (from the west) and following the Brixham Road south to Churston. Local buses run directly to the site.
Other Things To Do Around Churston Ferrers
Steam enthusiasts can continue their weekend by riding on the Dartmouth Steam Heritage Railway. Try out Dartmouth Steam Heritage Railway’s most popular attraction, ‘The Round Robin’ which takes you on a most beautiful journey around South Devon. Departures from Paignton, Dartmouth, Kingswear, Totnes, and Torquay. Apart from the Steam Train ride, as if that wasn’t enough, there are many more things to see and do in this part of the English Riviera!
