Vintage Rally In Hampshire

About the Tractor and Stationary Engine Rally Weekend

Do you hate falling back and springing forward each year, trying to figure out how to re-set a digital clock and getting reminders to change your fire detector batteries? You now can express your feelings via social media to Chris Martin, the lead singer of the British rock band Coldplay. His great-great-grandfather was William Willet (1856-1915) an early promoter of British Summer Time. William was born in Farnham, about 8 miles north of Bordon, where the Tractor and Stationary Engine Rally Weekend is held each year at John Marshal Yard off Forge Road.

Fortunately, this event is held in May so if you forgot to change the clocks in late March your only risk is arriving an hour too soon. This three day weekend steam event is for a great cause, Macmillan Cancer Research and it is hoped that many thousands of pounds will be raised.

The 2011 video below is the 'old' venue but showcases a lot of what goes on at this event.

Entry To The Rally

The show runs from 10am in the morning until around 4.00pm in the afternoon. Entry is free although, as this is for charity, donations are most welcome.

Somewhere to Stay in Hampshire

Tent campers will find a bit of paradise at the Mellow Farm Adventure with three campsites next to the River Wey. The Holden Farm Camping site and Watercress Lodges & Campsite are other two highly rated camping options. Travellers preferring a hotel or B&B for the weekend will find many options for varying budgets within a 5-mile radius of Bordon.

Other Things To Do Around Kingsley

Other attractions around Bordon include many nature reserves and quaint bridges for the whole family to enjoy with a picnic lunch and a stroll. If there is a budding ornithologist in your group, a visit to Birdworld, the United Kingdom's largest bird park is in store with 26 acres to explore. Another place to visit is less than an hour’s drive northeast from Bordon, the Aldershot Military Museum.

Visitors will enjoy seeing row after row of steam engines, cars, commercial and military vehicles, tractors, and motorbikes. Past shows have featured attractions like an 1890 Seward, described as a “truly ancient” steam engine that still works just fine. Trade stall and refreshment stalls add to the enjoyment.
