About the Wessex Midsummer Vintage Show
Nestled betwixt Trowbridge and Melksham in the rural landscape of Wiltshire, hides a field, that hoasts the annual Wessex Midsummer Vintage Show. Not to be missed this summer extravaganza provides family entertainment and the smells and sounds of the good old vintage days.
The show attracts exhibits from near and far. It generally showcases exquisite examples of Stationary Engines, Tractors and Farm working Machjinary, full-size Steam-Powerd beasts and their miniature counterparts as well as road vehicles, vintage cars and motorcycles.
If you are up for a Cranking Good Time, the Wessex Midsummer Vintage Show will not fail to deliver a full weekend of vintage entertaining.
Wessex Stationary Engine Club
Founded in the mid-1970s, the Wessex Stationary Engine Club was initiated to bring together like-minded enthusiasts in the local area. The club has more than a few years of events ‘in their boiler’, and the Annual Midsummer Show is a vital part of the clubs calendar.
Entry To The Event
The show starts at 10.00 am each day and finishes at 4.30 pm.
Somewhere to Stay in Wiltshire
There are numerous 3-star and 4-star hotels and bed and breakfasts located around the event. The closest 3-stars are probably the Somerset Arms in Semington and The Studio in Steeple Ashton. Make sure you book in advance as this is a busy time of year. For the more adventurous, campsites are available in nearby Bradford-upon-Avon at Beehive Field and Foxfield Glampsite. And for the canvas and non-canvas campers, Marsh Farm Caravan Site provides adequate facilities close to the Kennet and Avon canal.
Getting To Semington
The show is held just off the roundabout where the A361 meets the A350 in Semington. If you can get to Semington, you will not fail to miss the show. Use the A350 to reach Semington from the north - exit at junction 17 of the M4 and head south towards Chippenham, Lacock and Melksham. From the Bath or Salisbury direction use the A36 and pick up the A350 (from Salisbury) or the A361 (from Bath).
Other Things To Do Around The Area
What is there to do around here? I hear you ask. Nearby historic Bradford-upon-Avon is worth a visit if you have never been. Further afield is the Mediaeval Great Chalfield Manor and Garden in Atworth, Melksham, and (a real favourite of mine) is Lacock, back up the A350. If motoring is your thing, check out the Atwell-Willson Motor Museum near Calne. For something more relaxing, why not wander down to the Westbury White Horse and take a stroll - there are often hang gliders hovering overhead.
You cannot fail to be wowed by the impressive location, show and organisation of the Wessex Midsummer Vintage Show - enjoy the midsummer fun and take some time to enjoy the local area too.
